For Nisha [Dec. 4th, 2006|03:51 pm]
Apparently people have noticed that I've been MIA. If you have, I'm sorry for not writing more frequently. This has been the most hectic semester of my life (as much as it feels as if I'm not extremely stressed). I'm nearing the end of my 2nd student teaching placement (I have this week and next week) and then I'm done for the semester. That sounds pretty easy except for the fact that I have shitloads of work to do (including my Studnet Teaching portfolio). I really don't want this to end, though. I can't imagine going back to being a full-time student (aka next semester). That's why I'm definitely NOT going straight to grad. school in the summer. I really want to teach next year and after student teaching, I think I'm (mildly) prepared. That presents a lot of problems though: Where do I teach? Where do I live? Oy...

I'm going to stop typing now as I am sick and this delirious feeling I have needs to go away pronto. It's time for a nap I think.

If you're actually taking the time to read this, I'd probably actually give a shit if you replied to this message answering the following questions:

1) how are you?
2) what have you been up to?

Gracias mis amigos!

Al Gore [Sep. 15th, 2006|08:04 pm]
Last night I got to see Al Gore speak at the Landmark Theater in downtown Syracuse. It was WONDAHFUL! The theater was absolutely packed and our seats were pretty good (our = I went with Emily) - row X.

He opened with some jokes and anecdotes then dove right into the nitty gritty of global warming and the environment. It was odd because we spent the majority of the speaking engagement sitting in the dark watching Al Gore's Powerpoint presentation. I was impressed, however, with his expansive knowledge of the issues at hand as well as his recall of the names of the people he has worked with (it was a long list) in regard to global warming.

It was hard to sit through the presentation without thinking that the human race is helpless in surviving another 200 years but it was refreshing that he ended his presentation on a hopeful note: we can change our habits and turn things around. I just hope that everyone in the audience listened well enough and will heed Gore's warnings for the sake of humankind.

Last night I got super erm...drunk and that wasn't good. Do not under any circumstances drink a bottle of Arbor Mist & then start drinking Sangria. That isn't good. I ended up throwing up outside of Jesy's apt and my stomach muscles have hurt a lot today :(

Today was Juice Jam and that was full of up and downs. I got there at about 12:15, said "hi" to Emily and Amy and then Brittany and I found Melissa. I hadn't seen her in a while so I said "hi" and watched Motion City with her. Motion City was really good (although I almost went deaf because we were literally right next to the speakers) but the crowd sucked as usual. I don't know if a lot of ppl had heard of them before and it seemed as if few ppl knew the old songs.

After Motion City there was a huge gap between their set and Blackalicious' set. Brittany and I wandered around, talked to ppl, etc. Blackalicious was kind of creepy only because of the demographic they were singing to.

I partially stalked Matt from The Starting Line as he walked around the lot (after which I felt really sketch about doing that and made myself stop). Once their set started Brittany went to the center of the pit and I hung around with Melissa for a little bit. They played a lot of new songs (which I don't know or like) so I left after their 3rd song. At least I got to hear "Up & Go".

Where have I been? [Aug. 9th, 2006|12:14 pm]
For those of you who care, this summer has gone by way too quickly so I've been trying to do as much as I can with my friends during our (possible) last summer at home together!  I've also been dealing with lots of drama-esque bullshit, etc.  I didnt' really feel like posting about it before and still don't feel like doing so.

Nisha - How are you doing? I'm a bad person.  Tell me EVERYTHING that is going on with you!

In other news, I got a new car :-)  It's a 2006 blue Honda Civic LX - 4door.  I am in loveee!  It's my first car with less than 100,000 miles on it.
I got to see Hootie and the Blowfish for free the other day.  BEST FREE CONCERT OF MY LIFE (notice the word FREE in there) - Darius R. still sounds just as good as he did in the early nineties (or maybe even better).

Mae on the 14th - anyone going to that show?

I'll start posting more but in the meantime, how is everyone else's summer going?

So I started work yesterday...same old same old?  Yes, I'm working @ the Bartlett Arboretum Camp for Kids again (BACKpack).  Yes, I'm the Asst. Director again.  This year I've added 'Medical Director' to my list of titles.  Fun times.

I have to start prepping for the GREs at some point.  ...and the LASTs and the ATS-Ws.  W00t? Not so much (and I hate 'w00t' so why would I have just done that?)

I'm very tired.  I hate my schedule.  I work from 7:45-4:20 (roughly) and wtf is that?

Hi to Noel since I believe he is the only person who still reads this piece of shit journal.

What?  An actual post?  Who would’ve thought?  So I haven’t really posted much this summer and I apologize.  It’s not that I haven’t had anything to post but more that I’ve had too much going on OR have been too lazy OR too disinterested to make a post.  First here is a list of shit I’ve done this summer:

  • Lots of movie rentals from the library
  • Ireland (of course)
  • Celebrated Heather’s 21st bday (and got drunkety mc drunk drunk)
  • Took my CPR for the Pro-rescuer and First Aid courses (and passed – duh)
  • Have started my online history course
  • Reading lotsa good books J
  • Lots of trips to see the Dad and the Grandparents (plus I got to see some cousins and uncles/aunts whom I haven’t seen in a while)
  • Lots of trips to the Bulls Head Diner (damn the Stamford Diner for closing)
  • A couple of movies (The Break Up and Prairie Home Companion which I think sucked)
  • Star gazing J
  • FESTS!
  • Shopping (Loehmanns, Lord & Taylor, Good Will J, DCA Thrift in Darien)
  • Working @ Birthday Parties at the Bartlett
  • Bacon Brothers ;)

Upcoming plans include: Trip to Philly hopefully, trip to Syracuse (to see my apt), taking the GREs, signing up for and taking the LASTs, buying the entire SATC DVD set, starting work (26th), another B-day party at the Bartlett, my little brother’s little league championship game on Saturday night, hopefully getting tickets to see a Daily Show taping, The Devil Wears Prada (CANNOT WAIT), Hootie and the Blowfish!

Here are links to some pics of stuff I’ve done (including lots of the Bacon Brothers show since that was today)…and if you’re wondering why I was @ the Bacon Brothers concert…it was FREE and in my city.  Thank you.

Last night. [Jun. 15th, 2006|03:19 pm]
Fun fun times
Happy 21st Heather
I celebrated her birthday by getting drunk.
not tipsy, drunk.
The new shoes were there...
so was my bag from India that everyone likes (I stuck to the gold-bronze theme).

Not bad, huh?

Complete Bill for the Night (ahem, not for me, for everyone)

1 Lemon Drop (MINE)
1 Rum & Coke (MINE)
2 Double shots of rum (one for Heather, one for ME but I ended up doing both of them since she didn't feel well and I didn't want to waste rum-- see
      why I got drunk?)
1 Shot of Soco Lime (Karen)
2 Blue Hawaiians (Karen, Heather)
2 White Russians (Karen, Heather)
1 Pint of Guinness (Heather but I suspect  Becky drank at least half of it)
1 Coke (Alex)
1 Order of Fries (we all shared, Becky was supposed to pay but I think Jason ended up paying since he drank NOTHING)

TOTAL - $56

Not bad, huh? (see...I'm going to continue this 'not bad, huh?' motif throughout the rest of my posts).

I do promise to make somewhat of an Ireland post at some point (since ppl are pretending to want to hear about my trip)

Pictures of last night in the f-book if you're my friend.

Heh. I love it: "Your brother was just killed: here is $2500."

In America those people would've been compensated to greater lengths, no?  I won't go any further.  Let's leave it at that.

I'm bored [May. 16th, 2006|09:48 pm]
Why is it so early? I should probably be packing, no? OH Well.

I'm less than pleased with a couple of my grades this semester: a far cry (or since I like to exaggerate, perhaps it's a 'small yelp'?) from the straight A's I'm used to? I guess I have to get back on track for Student Teaching and such next year.

Have any of you ever taken an online course? Yes? No? How does that work?
